Win4Lin adds Ubuntu support

Win4Lin has announced full Ubuntu 6.06(Dapper) support for Win4Lin Pro Desktop and Win4Lin Virtual Desktop Server.

Win4Lin Pro Desktop allows Linux users to run Windows applications on Linux while Win4Lin Virtual Desktop Server is an enterprise and SMB product for making Windows applications available to thin clients using a Linux server. The company says both products have been fully tested on Ubuntu 6.06.

The organisation said Win4Lin Virtual Desktop Server(VDS) can be used to wean a Linux-committed organisation from the last few Windows applications by consolidating them onto a Linux server for as-needed concurrent use.

Windows can then be decommissioned from a convenient central location once suitable replacements are in production.

Using Win4Lin organisations can also use VDS to allow their users to run a full Windows desktop on top of a Linux infrastructure.

“This allows the organisation to reap the many benefits of Linux infrastructure without their users needing to be re-trained in the first phases of the conversion,” the company said.
