PHP4 to be discontinued by year-end

By   |  July 17, 2007

Support for PHP4, the popular web programming language, will stop at the end of this year, the development team has announced.

"The PHP development team hereby announces that support for PHP4 will continue until the end of this year only", they said in an announcement earlier this week.

"After 2007-12-31 there will be no more releases of PHP4.4. We will continue to make critical security fixes available on a case-by-case basis until 2008-08-08. Please use the rest of this year to make your application suitable to run on PHP5.

"It is exactly three years since PHP5 was released. In those three years it has seen many improvements over PHP4. PHP5 is fast, stable and production-ready and as PHP6 is on the way, PHP4 will be discontinued." For details on migrating to PHP5 visit the PHP5 migration guide.
