Entries open for KwaZulu-Natal ICT award

By   |  August 14, 2007

Durban’s drive to improve its support for ICT businesses will see it backing the upcoming SmartXchange ICT Awards ceremony. The second of this event, it is billed as the biggest event on Durban’s ICT calendar and will be held on September 27.

Entrance is open to any small medium or micro enterprise (SMME) operating in KwaZulu-Natal in the ICT sector.

This year sees the introduction of two new categories, with awards to recognise the best ICT newcomer of the year, the most deserving corporate organisation that has shown support to SMMEs during the year and the best ICT company of the year.

Entrants wil be judged on the contributions they have made to promote the sector and whether their products and services have made an impact. Last year MicroVision took the honours.

"This should really get Durban’s ICT players abuzz," says Patricia Dlamini, SMME services manager at SmartXchange. "Every player in the industry has a chance of winning one of the three awards or be runners up. There will be some super prizes to be won."

Dlamini notes that the awards ceremony is part of the city’s drive to promote the development of SMMEs as well as to create the region as Africa’s ICT hub.

A panel of adjudicators will select a shortlist and make contact with the companies for individual interviews.

The closing date for nominations is August 31.
