SA's best e-commerce sites announced

By   |  November 28, 2007

This year’s South African e-Commerce Awards saw Kalahari.net take top honours for the second year running beating much improved and tougher competition than last year’s event.

In addition to scooping up the award for best e-commerce store, Kalahari.net also walked, or rather surfed, away with best online bookstore and best jewellery and watch store.

Albert Bredenhann, managing director of Jump Shopping, which hosted the annual awards, said: “The 2007 awards were a runaway success with new entries joining in the running as well as a clear indication that the standard of local e-Commerce stores have vastly improved from the previous year’s selection.”

Bredenhann said he expected to see an [1]e-commerce[/1] boom hit the market within the next two years due to the increased access to [2]broadband[/2] as well as the entrance of offline stores joining the online arena.

Jump Shopping began the awards last year to “acknowledge South African e-Commerce stores displaying impressive growth and increased activity accordingly. 2007 sees the awards second season and boasts more than 17 000 votes by the public for their preferred online stores.”

“E-Commerce in South Africa is definitely on the right track and with the anticipated growth of broadband penetration in South Africa, I think we can expect great things from online shopping in the next two years,” said Matthew Buckland, general manager from Mail & Guardian, one of the judges at this years awards.
