The Free Software and Open Source Foundation for Africa (Fossfa) has secured funding for the development of the Fossfa web site. The Euro 25000 funding is to be supplied by the Humanist Institute for Cooperation with Development Countries(HIVOS).

Bildad Kagai, co-ordinator of the foundation says development of the Fossfa portal is expected to take eight months to complete, Fossfa has also secured USAID funding and the two sources of support will will allow the organisation to employ a full time portal manager, says Kagai.

The HIVOS grant also covers financial assistance for some of Fossfa\’s short term objectives to increase and improve the communications network of the foundation.

Kagai says the portal (www.fossfa.org) will \”facilitate the exchange of information, sharing of experiences and act as a central resource database for African expertise available for the implementation of open source solutions in Africa.\”
