Ubuntu Hardy Heron Alpha 5 flies

By   |  February 23, 2008

The Ubuntu development team today announced Ubuntu Hardy Heron Alpha 5, the latest in a series of milestone CDs towards the release of Ubuntu 8.04 in April.

In an email to the Ubuntu developer list this morning Steve Langasek wrote:

Alpha 5 is the fifth in a series of milestone CD images that will be
released throughout the Hardy development cycle. The Alpha images are known
to be reasonably free of showstopper CD build or installer bugs, while
representing a very recent snapshot of Hardy

New features in this release include:

  • Xorg 7.3
  • Linux kernel 2.6.24
  • PulseAudio is now enabled by default
  • PolicyKit makes it possible to run administrative applications as a normal user
  • Firefox 3 Beta 3
  • Transmission, the GTK version of the popular BitTorrent client comes with Alpha 5
  • Brasero now replaces Serpentine as the default audio CD burning tool
