SA-born Asterisk PBX now shipping

It’s always good to hear of South African companies making innovative products, particularly in the hardware sector which poses significant challenges.

So here is the Blio PBX, a rack-mountable IP/analogue PBX, designed and manufactured locally by the Cape Town-based company. The PBX is designed and built from the ground up according to Blio’s Johann Botha, the same man behind Frogfoot Networks.

Naturally, the Blio PBX runs Asterisk under all that good-looking hardware which makes it relatively affordable at around R16 000.

At just 1U high the blio is packed with some great features including:

1U, Rackmount or Wallmount
Designed and manufactured in Cape Town, ZA
Low power, no moving parts
1 X 10/100 Ethernet port
2 X ISDN ports, 4 channels
2 X Trunk ports, aka FXO (outgoing Analog incl. GSM/LCR)
10 X Analog extension ports for standard desk phones, aka FXS
Tested to work well with the SNOM range of SIP Phones, including the reception (Star Trek style) console
Supports stacking, you can buy one now and add more later to grow one (virtual) PBX
Has a very nice user friendly web interface for management (DIY config)
