Test drive OpenOffice 3 RC 1

By   |  September 12, 2008

The final release of OpenOffice.org 3.0 is expected later this month, in time for the upcoming Ubuntu, Mandriva, Fedora and OpenSuse releases later this year.

Last week the OpenOffice development team released the first release candidate of OOo 3.0 which includes updated ODF format support, Microsoft Office XML format support, a new start center, improved notes in writer, spreadsheet sharing, enhanced PDF support and a native Mac OS X version.

Tombuntu has a good guide to installing OpenOffice.org 3.0 RC 1 running on Debian based systems for those that want to give it a spin before the final release.

Our earlier OpenOffice 3.0 preview story has more details on what you can expect to see in the final release.
