Asterisk to get Skype interface

Digium, the creator and primary maintainer of open source VoIP platform, Asterisk, have announced a limited-access beta version of its new Skype For Asterisk software.

The Skype interface will allow Asterisk users to make, receive and transfer Skype calls from within their Asterisk phone system.

The beta version of Skype For Asterisk is an add-on channel driver module that integrates Skype Internet calling with Asterisk. Using Skype For Asterisk, companies can also use Skype’s calling rates for making low-cost calls to overseas landlines and mobile phones.

The beta version of Skype For Asterisk will enable users to make, receive and transfer Skype calls from within Asterisk phone systems as well as manage Skype calls using Asterisk applications such as call routing, conferencing, phone menus and voicemail.

The Skype for Asterisk beta programme is open to a limited number of system administrators and developers. Apply for the beta programme at www.astricon.net/skype.

Following the beta period when the product is released, Skype For Asterisk will be sold and distributed by Digium and its worldwide network of resellers including Connection Telecom in South Africa.
