By   |  October 1, 2008

In just over a week’s time, government officials and representative from around the globe will gather in South Africa for the second annual Open Document Format (ODF) workshop.

The workshop, which will be held in Pretoria from 9-10 October, is aimed at governments that are in the process of migrating to ODF as a standard or have done so already.

The second ODF workshop is being hosted by the South African department of home affairs together with the ODF Alliance.

Among those attending the workshop will be Peter Strickx on behalf of the government of Belgium, Carlos Machado of Brazil which is well advanced in adopting ODF and Tan King Ing who will talk on the OpenOffice.org migration in the Malaysian public sector.

There will also be corporate involvement in the workshop including Bob Sutor, IBM’s vice president for open source and standards, and Simon Phipps, the chief open source officer at Sun Microsystems.

Details on the workshop, including the agenda, can be found on the ODF Workshop website.

They also must press on to make I$O irrelevant. The more determined they are and the more aggressive they are in that purpose, the sooner I$O will realize they need to make serious changes.

They (ODF alliance et al) must understand that there are big egos involved here. As soon as those egos feel threatened, they’ll be more cooperative.
