Three million OpenOffice.org 3 downloads
According to official numbers, OpenOffice.org 3.0 was downloaded more than three million times in the first week of release. And those are the number of downloads through the official bouncer sites. With many more people downloading over the Bittorrent network, from other mirrors or simply though shared disks, the actual number is no doubt a lot higher.
The UK’s OpenOffice Marketing Manager, John McCreesh, writes on his blog that of the three million downloads, around 220 000 of those were for GNU/Linux systems, with more than 320 000 Mac OS X users downloading a copy, and a whopping 2.5 million downloads for Windows systems.
While the numbers of Windows users downloading OpenOffice.org is very encouraging it is also surprising to see so many Mac OS X users downloading a copy. Especially as this is the first time OpenOffice.org has supported Mac OS X natively.
