By   |  June 17, 2005

Kent Beck, one of the founders of Extreme Programming, will be in South Africa later this month. Beck, together with Ward Cunningham and Ron Jeffries, invented the extreme programming concept in 1999. Extreme programming is an approach to software engineering that and the most popular of several agile software development methodologies.

In Extreme Programming, every contributor to the project is an integral part of what is called the \”whole team\”. The team forms around a business representative called \”the customer\”, who sits with the team and works with them daily.[]

Beck is being brought to South Africa by Psybergate and the Joburg Centre for Software Engineering (JCSE). The recently-formed JSCE aims to improve South Africa\’s capacity to develop world class software for local and international clients.

The JCSE `s public lectures and master classes are intended to expose the South African software development community to a range of innovative ideas and leading personalities in the world of software engineering.

Beck will be delivering two public lectures on June 28 in Johannesburg and July 6 in Cape Town. He will also be delivering two masterclasses. These will be held on June 29 in Johannesburg and July 5 in Cape Town.
