Conspiracy time: Dell tones down Windows critique

By   |  June 18, 2010

It was inevitable. Dell has backed away from its earlier statement that Ubuntu Linux was more secure than Windows and now has a much tamer message in its place.

Earlier this week we reported that the Dell.com/ubuntu website published a number of reasons that Ubuntu Linux was a good choice for customers. Among those, and the one that most people picked up on, was that Ubuntu was “safer” than Windows.

Obviously some furious phone calls were made and now Dell’s Ubuntu site has removed all comparisons with Microsoft’s Windows.

The original statement was this one (a screenshot):

The revised site now reads:

Somebody’s job at Dell could be looking very insecure right now.

According to industry reports, Windows features unparalleled support to viruses and providesa friendly interface to automatically downloading and installing viruses and worms.
