E-Commerce Awards winners announced

The winners of South Africa’s first ever E-Commerce Awards have been announced after judges chose from a list of nominees tallied from almost 10 000 votes from the public. Kalahari.net was crowned the best e-commerce store as well as taking four more of the 19 award categories.

Newcomers eDreams were the dark horse of the event, walking away with three awards for best Sports and Outdoor store, Best Kids and Baby Store as well as best Electronic Store.

Best Electronics Store: eDreams (www.edreams.co.za)

Best Flower and Gift Store: NetFlorist (www.netflorist.co.za)

Best Food and Wine Store: Woolworths (www.woolworths.co.za)

Best Game Store: Take2 (www.take2.co.za)

Best Home and Garden Store: Kalahari.net (www.kalahari.net)

Best Jewelry and Watches Store: Have2Have (www.have2have.co.za)

Albert Bredenhann, managing director of Jump Shopping said that he was very satisfied with the outcome and added that this year’s awards has set a platform for great things to come in 2007. He remarked that the growth seen in the area of e-commerce in South Africa, especially online-shopping, was big in 2006 and he expects even better growth in 2007.

The awards were open to all e-commerce enabled websites in South Africa. The voting went through a process of nominations by the public that was shortlisted by Jump Shopping. The voting was then opened to the public for almost a month from where the final voting was done by the judges.

Bredenhann concluded by acknowledging that there were many online stores which did not make it into the awards but that their efforts are not going unnoticed.
