Jumping Bean to offer Xandros in SA

Linux Windows-lookalike Xandros has a new distributor in South Africa. Jumping Bean, a Randburg-based Linux and Java company, has signed an exclusive distributorship deal with Xandros.

Xandros Desktop Professional provides a full desktop and suite of applications designed to be easy to use in a mixed Windows and Linux environment. The OS includes Xandros security suite and includes firewall, anti­-spam and filesystem protections.

Xandros also includes 3D desktop graphics, Bluetooth and easy integration with Windows, Linux and Unix networks, including Windows domain authentication.

Xandros Server claims to combine the functionality and stability of Linux with Window’s server administration tools, which allows users used to Windows to get up and running as quickly as possible.

Xandros server includes the Xandros management console that provides a graphical interface for easier access and configuration. The server configuration also includes the RealNetworks Helix Server which is a streaming media server for delivering quality media to both wired and wireless devices.

Jumping Bean’s Joseph Neusu says the company decided on Xandros because they believe it provides “excellent Windows and Linux integration”.

Desktop versions of Xandros will sell for around R1000 – R1500, all inclusive. Server versions will sell for around R3000.
