Easy website building, with Tank

By   |  January 22, 2008

Last year we wrote about SynthaSite, a web-based website building tool. Now there is another site-building tool out of South Africa called Tank and it looks very promising. Tank is ideal for anyone who wants a website but doesn’t have the time to build their own; or doesn’t want to pay someone else to build it for them.

Tank offers simple site building tools to instantaneously set up a website. Tectonic gave Tank a try earlier today and found that within minutes we had a basic, but functional, website up and running.

Tank is a project by Cape Town-based startup ThisArmy. Company co-founder Alan Alston describes Tank:

It’s an app that builds simple, efficient sites with an ‘it just works’ ethos. No bells, no whistles, no widgets. You can use it for your personal site, your business site, your side business site, or an idea for a business (or side business) site. It’s a simple, focused tool with a low learning curve that lets you get your work done quickly and then gets out of your way.

Tank is a hosted web applications which means everything lives on a central server and all new features are rolled out to users as and when they become available. Very nice for removing the headache from managing your own website.

Tank offers a free version of the site builder which includes 10MB of disk storage and 100MB of traffic per month. The R85/month option bumps this up to 1GB of traffic and 100MB of disk storage. The high-end premium account costs R170 a month and offers 200MB storage and 2GB of bandwidth.

Head on over to Tank and sign up for an account.

    Hi there Alastair

Just a quick note to say thanks for the review. We’ve been plugging away at the app for quite some time already, and we know there are aspects that aren’t that ready yet (like with all software), but we believe we have built something quite interesting and of value to a couple of people out there.

    Thanks for recognising that.

    All the best,
    Alan
