KnowledgeTree expands into Spain, Portugal

By   |  February 7, 2008

Cape Town-based open source software developers KnowledgeTree have just expanded their operations into the Iberian peninsula in a deal with Sybase SBS Software in Spain and Portugal. The master distributor deal will see Sybase SBS Software develop a network of new reseller partners in the region.

Developed in South Africa, KnowledgeTree is an open source document management suite built on Apache, MySQL and PHP (Lamp).

“We believe KnowledgeTree has great potential in the Spanish and Portuguese markets. Our customers appreciate the document management software’s ease of use and its Lamp-based architecture. The fact that KnowledgeTree has already been translated into Portuguese, Castilian and Catalan by the open source community is indicative of the demand for the product on the Iberian Peninsula,” said Rui Ribeiro, professional services manager at Sybase SBS.

“KnowledgeTree complements and strengthens our existing offering of open source products from Red Hat and SCALIX and we believe our experience with delivering these open source technologies in Spain and Portugal will see a successful commercial rollout of the product in these markets.”

“Sybase SBS Software have a committed team with extensive experience in marketing and selling open source products in the Spanish and Portuguese markets. We’re excited to be working with them and look forward to a successful rollout of commercial editions of KnowledgeTree in languages spoken in Spain and Portugal,” said Daniel Chalef, KnowledgeTree chief operating officer.

Alongside market development activities, Sybase SBS Software will be porting KnowledgeTree to use the Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise database engine. Sybase SBS Software will also be managing the quality of commercial translations of KnowledgeTree into the Castilian, Catalan and Portuguese languages.

It’s great to see SA software developers making great strides internationally.
