Ubuntu Intrepid alpha 2 out today

By   |  July 11, 2008

Alpha 2 of Ubuntu’s 8.10 Linux operating system is expected to be released later today. In an emailed announcement last night, Steve Langasek wrote that ISO testing for 8.10, codenamed Intrepid Ibex, had been progressing slower than expected. “Usable desktop ISOs have been delivered late [and] we don’t yet have a confirmed-good set of ISO images that we can release as an alpha.

“As a result, Intrepid Alpha 2 is not being released on Thursday … we are instead aiming for a release on Friday once the images have been validated.”

For those that prefer to wait for a more stable desktop to try out Intrepid, the first beta release of 8.10 is planned for October 2. The final release of 8.10 is scheduled for October 30.

Intrepid Ibex promises to have a number of new features as well as enhancements. Among these is notably faster boot times, better Flash integration and a new desktop theme that was planned for 8.04 but never made the cut.
