By   |  April 15, 2009

Question of the week: You’re hacking away at your latest pet open source project and listening to a selection of fine music using your favourite Linux audio player. So tell us, which Linux music player is your app of choice when it comes to listening to audio on your PC? If your favourite is not listed here then tell us about it in the comments. [poll=21]

Amarok 1.4 was GREAT. Amarok 2.0 is full of bugs. It’s still the best player, bar none, but they really need to put some serious work into things like the collection manager and the playlist manager.

I would have advised anyone to download vlc and use it, it is a fine programme. I have not been able to do that recently as the version I had tried to use had a bug which nullified the graphic equalizer settings at the end of each file. This makes it unusable. Sort it out.

The wonderful Rhythmbox for me – mainly because i’m a Gnome user, but also because it does what it needs to: manage, play and scrobble, and RB does it with ease! Shame developement will be ceasing….

Amarok 1.4. I like the layout, (exaile has as similar one but It does not work exactly the same) I like the file manager and the whole rename my music from within it,(Exaile can do this but its not the same) I know my most used shortcuts now. Don’t know if Exaile has any. I like the scripts even though I haven’t used them in a while. I like the way it shuffles. I hate the whole QT thing in gnome though. So I am trying out Exaile but I am kinda missing Amarok. RHYTHMBOX I am kinda surprised it is in second. I could never use it personally. i found it really slow and it used to skip my music a lot and i can’t remember what else but I remember that i just hated it after trying it for a week or so.
