LinuxWorld, Futurex Cape Town shows cancelled

By   |  July 19, 2005

The Cape Town leg of the LinuxWorld and Futurex computer shows will not happen this year. Organisers Exhibitions for Africa, after surveying exhibitors, have decided to postpone the show to September 2006. The LinuxWorld show, licenced from IDG, was to be staged alongside Futurex as it was in Johannesburg earlier this year.

In an email to exhibitors last week organisers said that \”whilst some of our clients wished the event to take place in September this year, they accepted that we need a critical mass of exhibitors to make the show a success. The result is that the safe and correct decision is to cancel Futurex 2005 and re-launch for 2006.\”

Organisers will meet with exhibitors in August to discuss the future of the event.

Aldean Prior, Exhibitions for Africa director, says that if the Futurex show had gone ahead the show would have been \”very small\”.

Prior says the Johannesburg LinuxWorld 2006 show will definitely go ahead in May next year and will be a \”bumper\” event.

The Cape Town Futurex show will be held at the Cape Town International Conference Centre from 27 to 29 September 2006.
