SA accounting suite expands internationally

By   |  December 8, 2005

Cubit Accounting Software, developers of the Web-based Cubit accounting package, have announced the release of version 2.6 of the application, as well as its expansion into two international markets.

Cubit version 2.6 (available from includes significant improvements to the package\’s payroll functionality, says Cubit director Andre Coetzee. Coetzee says the new release also has a number of changes that make the software GAAP-compliant as well as suited to local regulatory and financial requirements.

The next release of Cubit will be available early March 2006, just after most companies\’ financial year end. Cubit releases updates every three to four months, accommodating accounting and tax changes as well as user requests for specific functionality to be added, says Coetzee.

Cubit is also expanding into new international markets and is finalising agencies in Australia and Canada, with negotiations for a distributor in a third region also underway.

\”There has been a sudden explosion in the Cubit channel this year, with 60 dealers coming on board between January and September and a further 40 joining by December,\” says Coetzee. \”We expect to have as many as 150 countrywide by year-end, and have now decided to expand offshore as we believe the package has a lot to offer companies requiring a stable, available source code, Web-based accounting system – irrespective of their location.\”

\”Cubit has some 5 500 users on the African continent, up from 2 800 three months ago,\” Coetzee notes. \”This is expected to increase substantially as the international agencies begin operating in earnest.\”

Dealers have the right to distribute Cubit software to anyone. It is also widely distributed by Cubit itself, through the Website and CDs, as are updates. Users are charged a small monthly fee which entitles them to free upgrades and training (forty DVDs worth) material. Support is provided through Cubit itself and the dealer network.

\”The growth we\’ve seen this year in the Cubit user and dealer networks proves that the software works,\” says Coetzee. \”South Africa has world class developers that produce world class software, and we expect international take up to reflect these facts.\”
